The Department of Mass Communication is one of the departments in the College of Social and Management Sciences [COSOMASS] of Caleb University, Lagos. The Department came into being as a result of the resolve of the management of the University to establish a journalism school that is second to none in Africa.
Prior to the take-of of the Department in the 2009/2010 session, the management of the University set up a committee of Mass Communication experts in 2008 to design the curriculum for the take-of of the Department. The committee members include: Professor Ralph Akinfeleye [2] Professor Idowu Sobowale, [3] Professor Lai Oso, [4] Professor Dayo Alao, [5] Mr. Reuben Abati and [6] Mr. Jimi Kayode. The committee came up with the curriculum presently being used by the Department. It is important to emphasise that the committee of Mass Communication experts used the National University Commission [NUC] Benchmark for Mass Communication in coming up with a unique curriculum for the Department. Consequent upon the completion of the curriculum and other necessary things having been put in place, the Department admitted 35 students in the 2009/2010 session. The pioneer academic members of staff of the Department are: [1] Professor Lai Oso, [2] Mr. Adepoju Tejumaiye and [3] Mr. Achike Okafo.
