CALEB UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

You are welcome to Caleb University Library and Documentation Centre. We have in our collections currents books, Journals, Monographs, Reference works and Annual Reports.  Our primary audience is the staff and students of the University, but the Library severs as a reference Library to the entire University community and other sister institutions around.  All bonafide users of the Library are expected to register with the Library and carry the Library’s identity card. Join the train of our regular library patrons.

The University Library is a central library where information sources on all academic programmes offered in University are stored.  It is on a temporary location in the administrative building of the University.  Plans to build permanent library building are underway. The Library was opened to readers on April 1, 2008 at the take – off site with a holding of 630 volumes of relevant and current books. To date, the Library collection has grown to over 5000 volumes of books, 430 volumes of reference materials and a good collection of foreign and local Journals.

There are four sections of the Library: 
Readers’ Services:  This is the public area of the library and the access point to the library collections. Library users and staff interact here in the course of offering services like loans, referral, and readers advisory, etc.

Technical Services section:  This is a non – public area, where the professional functions of the Library are carried out.  Here, books are acquired, stamped, accessioned, catalogued, classified and labeled before they are available to users.  This section is out – of – bound to non – library staff.

Serial/Reference Section: This section housed journals and reference materials like Encyclopedia, Dictionaries, Directories, Bibliographies etc. Materials here are usually not given out on loan.
Database Management: This section oversees the automation of library operations and services, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and the e – library.

PHYSICAL FACILITIES
Library floor: This covers an area of  813 m2 floor space, accommodating both the stacks and readers.
Sitting Capacity: Over 300 sitting spaces and a reading room is available for library users.
Reading Environment: All sections of the library are provided with air conditioners and ceiling fans to ensure conducive reading environment.

Printed Resources

To date, there are over 5300 volumes of books in the collection and available reference materials include Encyclopedia Britannica, Encyclopedia Americana, Encyclopedia of Science and Technology, Britannica Great Books, Dictionaries etc.  The Journal collection has a good mix of both foreign and local title

e-Recourses                                                 
There are 30 workstations in the e-Library.
Reader can access the following e-journal resources:

Gateway to academic sites is displayed by each workstation to enable user’s access the appropriate sites for information.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
  1. Registration on prescribed form is required of every Library User as a condition for admission to the Library.
  2. The reader’s ticket is the passport to the Library.  Library users must show it on demand before entry to the library.
  3. Readers’ ticket are not transferable.  Readers are liable for all transactions made on their tickets.
  4. Lost or missing tickets must be reported immediately at the circulation desk.  A replacement is provided at a cost of five hundred naira (N500) per ticket.
  5. Library Users are liable to checking at the Security check-point both on entering and leaving the library.
  6. All readers must enter and leave the Library by the main door.
  7. No reader must enter any part of the Library marked “For Staff Only”.
  8. Silence must be observed in and around the Library premises.
  9. Smoking, eating, and drinking are forbidden in the Library.
  10. The use of any form of naked light in the Library is prohibited.
  11. Orderly conduct must be observed at all times in the Library.
  12. The Reservation of Library seat is not allowed.
  13. Materials left behind at closing time will be removed by Library staff and can be claimed at the circulation desk.
  14. Briefcases, handbags, raincoats, umbrellas, etc. must be left in the receptacles provided at the entrance of the Library.
  15. The Library will not accept liability for any valuable brought into the Library
  16. Stealing of Library material is a serious offence which if proven, may incur the punishment of dismissal from the University.
  17. The mutilation, marking, defacement, or willful damage of Library materials in any form whatsoever is a serious offence punishable by withdrawal of all Library privileges.
  18. All correspondence from the Library must be attended to promptly.  Library users must ensure that the addresses  on their registration forms are accurate and updated, as necessary.
The University Librarian reserves the right to suspend from the use of the Library, any reader who infringes on any of these regulations and to refer cases of infringement to the appropriate authority for further disciplinary action.
LIBRARY SERVICES
    • Loan Service: Students and Non – Academic Staff can borrow two (2) books for a period  of two weeks while academic Staff are allowed to borrow up to four (4) books for the same period of time.
    • Current Awareness Service: Current information in the library are conveyed to users in form of “acquisition alert”.
    • Inter – Library Loans: Publications that are not owned by the Library are sourced from other Sister Libraries.  They are borrowed for users as inter – library loan.
    • Library orientation: This is done to keep the students abreast of the resources in the library.
    • Reader’s Advisory Services: Readers are advised on alternative sources for their information needs.
