Professor Ayodeji Olukoju, Vice-Chancellor, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, obtained a B.A. First Class Honours degree in History & Archaeology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the M.A. and PhD degrees from the University of Ibadan in 1980, 1982 and 1991, respectively. He taught at the Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye (1984-87) and, subsequently, at the University of Lagos, where he was appointed Professor on October 1, 1998, and served as Head, Department of History (2001-2004) and two-term Dean of Arts (2005-2009). He has held the Japan Foundation, British Academy, DAAD (Germany), IDE (Japan), Leventis (UK) and Chapman (UK) post-doctoral research fellowships, and the WARA Travel Grant/Residency at Emory University, Atlanta, USA. Professor Olukoju has over 100 academic publications - four co-edited books, five sole-authored books [Maritime Trade, Port Development and Administration: The Japanese Experience and Lessons for Nigeria (Tokyo, 1996), Infrastructure Development and Urban Facilities in Lagos, 1861-2000 (Ibadan, 2003), The Liverpool of West Africa: The Dynamics and Impact of Maritime Trade in Lagos, 1900-1950 (Trenton, NJ, 2004), Culture and Customs of Liberia (Westport, CT & London, 2006), The Fourteenth Commissar of Works: The Life and Labour of Rauf Aregbesola (Lagos & Winnipeg, 2007)], three monographs, 51 book chapters and 41 articles in high-impact journals of maritime, economic, social, transport, imperial, global and African history. He has maintained an unbroken sequence of international (offshore) publications every year from 1991 till date (2012). Professor Olukoju was twice the University of Lagos Best Researcher in the Arts/Humanities (2006 and 2009) and  is the first and only African  member of the Executive Committee of the International Maritime Economic History Association (IMEHA). He has served on the editorial boards of African Economic History (Madison, USA) and Afrika Zamani: Journal of the Association of African Historians (Dakar, Senegal) and is currently on the editorial boards of History in Africa: A Journal of Method (Madison, USA) and Journal of African History (Cambridge, UK). Professor Olukoju is the Convener of the Network of Nigerian Historians and  has been external examiner and professorial assessor at several Nigerian and Ghanaian universities. He has consulted for UNESCO, Ford Foundation, The Netherlands Foundation for Tropical Research, the Israeli Science Foundation, SEPHIS (Netherlands), the Nigerian Labour Congress and Guaranty Trust Bank. Professor Olukoju was elected Fellow, Nigerian Academy of Letters (the apex body of academic organizations in the Humanities) in August 2011. He is married to Omowumi (nee Olorunda), a lawyer, with four children. He has been Vice-Chancellor, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State since October 18, 2010.
