Professor Ayandiji Daniel Aina, Vice Chancellor, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, State obtained a B.A ( Hons.) degree in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Ibadan in 1988. He also obtained a PG Diploma in Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos (1991). He returned to the University of Ibadan for his MSc. Political Science (1992) and PhD in Political Science (2000). Professor Aina, who was the immediate past Provost, College of Management and Social Sciences, Babcock University, Nigeria was previously, pioneer President/Vice-Chancellor, Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Nigeria (2011-2013).
A widely travelled researcher, academic and university administrator, he spent his early career life as a media specialist (with distinguished work experience spanning a decade with the Lagos-based Diplomat International Press and the Nigerian Daily Times Plc). At Babcock, Aina was a two-term Head of Department (1999-2003); Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences (2003-2006); Chief of Staff to the President/Vice-Chancellor (2006-2008); Dean, School of Postgraduate School (2010-2011); Dean Babcock Business School (2013-2015). He was also Visiting Professor and Foundation Head of Department of Political Science and International Relations, Osun State University (2009). His very rich university administrative stint saw him appointed as the Dean of the new Babcock Business School upon return from Adeleke University where he served as pioneer President-Vice-Chancellor.
He has served locally in Nigeria and in the United States severally as member of accreditation panel to some universities (including University of Uyo, University of Port-Harcourt, Niger-Delta University and Kwara State University in Nigeria as well as Loma Linda University, California, USA). As a member of the Accreditation Panel to Loma Linda University, a top rated university in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), California United States, he got the recognition to review the postgraduate school, university research agenda and staff/establishment matters.
Aina had chaired so many notable committees and held so many positions in the University system including Chairman, Committee of Heads of Department; Chairman, Administrative Policies and Plan sub-committee of University Strategic Planning Committee; Chairman, Academic, Library and Student Services sub-committee; member University Management Committee for close to two decades; University Research and International Linkage Officer, a position which afforded him the opportunity to assist in raising funds and friends for his University.
Over time, Professor Aina attended and contributed to numerous International and National conferences, seminars and workshops; published several articles in learned journals, books and monographs in very reputable local and international outlets. He has over 40 academic publications. He has also served as the Editor of the International Review of Politics and Development (2003-2008); as well as the Managing Editor, Journal of International Politics and Development (JIPAD), a collaborative publication of Indiana University, Kokomo USA and Babcock University, Nigeria (2008-2014).An award winner, twice he won the DTN Chairman Best Journalist Prize with special emphasis on education research; Best Academic Staff of the Year 2003 at Babcock University and Academic Leadership Award of the Postgraduate School a year after he left Babcock University, Distinguished Public Service Award for a notable Vice Chancellor from an African University at the African Conference at the University of Texas at Austin, USA (2013).
In the task of extending the frontiers of knowledge, Professor Aina has participated in a number of projects including the CODESRIA multi-national working group research on quality assurance in Private Universities in Nigeria. He was also part of the Swedish-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (I-IDEA) project focusing on Democracy in Nigeria: Continuing the Dialogues- (June- August, 2001).
He holds a BA (Hons.) in Philosophy/Political Science (best graduating student, 1988); MSc. Political Science (Public Administration) 1990; and PhD in Political Science (Public Communication) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Additionally, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism (1991) and a 300-hour French language certificate with the Alliance Francaise (1997). Aina, is loved and respected by students and colleagues for his commitment and dedication to wholistic education and passion for multi-cultural community living. He is a Christian with active interest in mission to the less privilege (widows and the physically challenged). He is married to Rachael (a University Lecturer in Information Resources Management) and blessed with three handsome boys. His hobbies include reading, traveling, and prayer ministration.
