The Senate is the highest academic body and the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju is the Chairman. It is responsible for all academic matters of the University, which include provision of courses, approval of the syllabuses, organisation and conduct of teaching and research, admission and assessment of students progress through examination and otherwise. In carrying out these functions, it requires the concurrence of Council to provide the necessary financial and other resources. Senate is the ultimate academic decision-making body. College Boards, Departments/Centres, Boards and its other Committees advise Senate in academic matters.

Quorum: The quorum is at least fifty percent (50%) of the membership, including the Chairman, fifty per cent (50%) of Deans and fifty per cent (50%) of Heads of Departments. The Senate membership shall not exceed one hundred (100) at any given time.
In a situation where the Vice-Chancellor is absent at a meeting of Senate, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor shall preside over the meeting. Where the Deputy Vice-Chancellor is also not available, the Vice-Chancellor shall nominate, in writing, one of the Deans to act as Chairman at the meeting.
Periodicity: The Senate meets every last wednesday of every month during session, and on such special occasions as events may dictate. If so requested in writing by any ten members of the Senate, the Vice-Chancellor, or in his absence a person duly appointed by him, shall convene a meeting of the Senate to be held not later than the tenth day following that on which the request was received.
