Caleb University Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation on Thursday, October 24, 2024, organised a community service development and education at a secondary school in the Imota area of Lagos.
The programme themed: “Career Exploration: Understanding Your Options,” was put together by the university as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the host community.
The event held at the Imota Community Grammar School featured keynote addresses, panel discussions and insights into career paths for the students by facilitators drawn from the University.
The participants were mostly from the Senior Secondary School (SSS) two and three in the college.
Speakers at the programme were Dr. E.A. Ademola from the Department of Biological Sciences who focused on opportunities in core science fields – Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Sciences, Mr. Olajide Adegunwa (Technology and Engineering) and Ms. Aboyeji (Medicine, Nursing and Public Health).
Others were – Mr. Olugbenga Agboola (Law, Governance and Public Service), Dr. Areghan Isibor (Finance, Management and Business Administration, Mrs. Opeyemi Shokoya (Arts, Social Sciences, Media, Communication and Management), Dr. Felicia Adeyemo (Entrepreneurship) and Arc. Opeyemi Asaju (Time Management).
In her brief remark earlier, the Director of the Centre, Dr. O.A. Folorunso, urged the students to take advantage of the seminar to shape the future.
She said the community service was designed to help the students to understand their career paths.
Folorunso said: “It is an important day for the students, Caleb University and the school. This is because the facilitators will give insights into what the future holds for the students.
“I’m excited because there is joy in the students for a good future.”
The Director, HeadSchools and Administration, Lagos State Education, District II, Mr. Idowu Adegbemile, urged the university management to extend the programme to other schools in the district.
“I commend Caleb University management for coming up with this initiative, which will help the students in their quest for a meaningful career.
“For the students, I challenge them to take advantage of this opportunity. Once you decide on the course you want to pursue in the university, it will determine what you want to become.
“As you lay your bed, that’s how you will lie on it. Please make hay while the sun shines,” the director counselled the students.
