UTME 2024: Expert Advice for Prospective Candidates by Abimbola Olulesi

In a bid to enhance practical skills and knowledge in fiber optic technology, the ICT Unit of Caleb University conducted an intensive three-day training program from Wednesday 4th to Friday 6th, September 2024. The training was sponsored by Shiloh Media and organized by CUL Technologies, under the leadership of Mr. Adesola-Zion Oluwaseun, the Head of ICT and coordinator of CUL Technologies, who is also a Microsoft Certified IT Professional. The training was facilitated by Engineer Lawrence Diji-Geske, who brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program.
The training was attended by a diverse group of participants, including Caleb University staff, IT support personnel, and industrial training students. The participants, in hierarchical order, included:
Engineer Lawrence Diji-Geske guided the participants through the fundamentals of fiber optic technology, covering theoretical lessons and hands-on practical sessions. The training was designed to provide participants with both foundational knowledge and practical skills, such as fiber optic installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
In an interview with Shiloh Media correspondents, Engineer Lawrence discussed the various applications of fiber optics, particularly in telecommunications, and emphasized the benefits of fiber technology, including its speed, bandwidth capacity, and durability.
Participants shared their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity. Efe Enaibe, an IT support staff member, expressed that the training was an “eye-opener,” highlighting the uniqueness of the practical experience compared to his academic background. Peter Praise Ailo-Ojo, a 400-level Computer Science student and industrial training intern, noted that the training was a valuable addition to his CV and future career prospects.
Odewale Mojolaoluwa Priscilia, a corps member serving in the ICT department, acknowledged that while the training posed challenges, it offered valuable insights and skills that could be mastered with consistent practice. All participants appreciated the opportunity to engage in this advanced field, with many noting the practical applications of fiber optics in real-world scenarios.
Mr. Adesola-Zion, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to Shiloh Media for sponsoring the initiative and to Engineer Lawrence for delivering an engaging and impactful training. He reaffirmed Caleb University’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technological education and practical experiences for its staff and students.
Participants were handsomely compensated for their involvement and dedication throughout the program, and the training was hailed as a success, equipping all attendees with new technical skills and insights that will prove invaluable in their professional journeys.
