Abstract
The paper examined the impact of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on Nigeria’s anticorruption efforts, specifically in terms of its institutional capacity. It further examined the challenges of the Bureau and the strategies to strengthen it for enhanced performance. These were with a view to determining the relevance of the Bureau to the country’s anti-corruption efforts. The study relied on primary and secondary sources of data. The primary data were sourced through in-depth interviews (IDIs) conducted with the CCB/CCT senior members of staff using purposive sampling while the secondary data were obtained from the Nigerian constitution and a structured literature review. Data collected were analysed using simple descriptive and content analysis. The result revealed that, in relation to Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts, the Bureau’s institutional capacity was below average as the Bureau did not adequately carry out its operations as specified in the Bureau’s Act. Moreover, the result showed that, challenges to the institutional capacity of the Bureau at contributing meaningfully to the country’s anticorruption efforts included inadequate funding and infrastructure. In spite of its institutional challenges, the study concluded that the Code of Conduct Bureau was relevant to Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts
