VICE CHANCELLOR’S CUP SETS CALEB UNIVERSITY AGOG; AS COMPUTER SCIENCE WINS THE INAUGURAL EDITION

Basking in the euphoria of emerging the Best Private University in Nigeria, Caleb University Imota, Lagos, has held the Inaugural Vice Chancellor’s Cup between Monday; a prestigious core University event showcasing outstanding student achievements in sports, intellectual, and leadership pursuits.

The tournament, won by the Department of Computer Science/Cyber Security, witnessed intense competition among students on an inter-departmental basis, vying for honors and glory for their sides.

While congratulating the winners and celebrating the spirit of excellence that defines the Caleb university community, during the presentation of awards and trophies, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Nosa Owens-Ibie, who was in the company of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof Sunday Adewale, was excited at the incredible display of talent by students who maximised the opportunity to prove that they are world beaters Nigeria and the global community will be hearing and seeing more of.

Expectedly, football, as the world’s most popular sport, set the entire university campus aglow. While the matches were being played on the pitch, commentaries, banters, analyses, and discussions over bragging rights dominated the social media platforms of staff and students. At the end of a fiercely contested match, the Political Science and International Relations team defeated their Computer Science/ Cyber Security counterparts 2-1 to clinch the gold medal.

Heralding the epic final was the Staff Novelty Football Match between the Academic staff, led by the DVC Academic, Prof Sunday Adewale, and the Administrative Staff, led by the DVC Research, Innovation, Strategy & Administration, Prof Olalekan Asikhia; with the latter winning by two goals to one.

On the overall table, the Computer Science/Cyber Security department, amassing 66 points, emerged victorious on the overall medal table, claiming the championship title. Political Science and International Relations came second with 30 points while Accounting was 3rd with 19 points.

The basketball event was won by Computer Science (male and female). The track and field events which featured sprints, long-distance races, and relays, had Computer Science setting new records to sweep the media haul for both male and female, just as they dominated in Volleyball and Table tennis.

Students equally competed in board games such as, among others, Chess, Monopoly, Scrabble.

Arch. Christian Odefadehan, acting Director of Sport, who with the Sports Committee, delivered a tournament to remember, stated that the Vice Chancellor’s Cup embodies the Institution’s Core values of excellence, teamwork, and dedication. He added that the sporting festival has presented a priceless window for nurturing talented students, and unearthing latent skills.

A statement by the University posited that the Vice Chancellor’s Cup is a defining testament to the Institution’s commitment to fostering a well-rounded academic and extra curriculum ideology designed to produce student leaders equipped to take leadership position in all ramifications.
