In a candid conversation with Oluwatunmishe Precious Ogunniyi, the ONE-DAY Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University in 2023, we gain insights into his life, experiences, and aspirations. Ogunniyi, a 400-level Computer Science student, took on the prestigious role for a day, and here is what he shared with us.

Interviewer: Kindly introduce yourself.  Oluwatunmishe: My name is Oluwatunmishe Precious Ogunniyi, a 400-level Computer Science student at Caleb University. I am a native of Kwara State, currently residing in Ikorodu, Lagos state. Born into the family of an engineer and a trader, I have two siblings, Praise and Patience. I have a passion for cycling and look forward to exploring volleyball after completing my BSc degree.

Interviewer: How did you earn the honor of being the ONE-day VC?

Oluwatunmishe: I can’t exactly say how I earned this, but I believe it’s a result of my exceptional act of service and diligence in whatever task is assigned to me.

Interviewer: What were your experiences as the ONE-day VC?

Oluwatunmishe: It was a huge honor. I gained a new perspective, not just as a student but as a person in authority within the institution. I felt celebrated, blessed, and honored.

Interviewer: What were the privileges you enjoyed as the ONE-day VC?

Oluwatunmishe: I enjoyed various privileges, from transportation to meals and networking opportunities. Meeting with influential individuals, including the guest minister and chairperson, was a particularly enriching experience.

Interviewer: What change would you like to effect in Caleb University if given an opportunity?

Oluwatunmishe: I aim to ensure that all graduating students discover their God-given purpose and are on the path to achievement, aligning with the university’s mission to shape leaders of tomorrow.

Interviewer: What is TEACHenGIG?

Oluwatunmishe: TEACHenGIG is Nigeria’s first online platform connecting schools with quality, well-trained teachers. It serves as a bridge between schools with job vacancies and teachers seeking employment.

Interviewer: What remarkable thing did you do today in the school?

Oluwatunmishe: I proposed a scheme of foundation system to support students with innovative ideas in business and entrepreneurship. This system aims to bring their ideas to reality while positively impacting society.

Interviewer: What will be the criteria for the students’ loan?

Oluwatunmishe: The criteria are still being deliberated upon, but successful academic results and cooperation with partnering organizations are essential.

Interviewer: How do you balance academics and school fellowship?

Oluwatunmishe: Balancing requires self-awareness, time management, and prioritizing tasks. It involves understanding the demands of both academics and fellowship, without seeing them as conflicting priorities.

Interviewer: What has been your achievements so far as a student?

Oluwatunmishe: From being appointed as Vice-President of the Campus fellowship to serving as the Student Academic Director, I’ve had numerous achievements, each contributing to my growth.

Interviewer: How do you spend your leisure?

Oluwatunmishe: I rest during leisure, listening to spiritually uplifting sermons and motivational messages to stay focused.

Interviewer: How do you manage distractions?

Oluwatunmishe: Prayer, mentorship, and setting restrictions on devices help manage distractions. Having a strong support system and prioritizing tasks are crucial.

Interviewer: What inspires you?

Oluwatunmishe: Knowing my purpose, my parents, mentors, books, and the achievements of fellow young individuals inspire me to keep moving forward.

Interviewer: What’s your advice for the youth?

Oluwatunmishe: Be productive, diligent, and prioritize your time. Proverbs 22:29 emphasizes the importance of diligence in achieving success.

Interviewer: Who do you see yourself becoming?

Oluwatunmishe: I aspire to be a minister of God’s word with social impact in the tech space.
